One of the main aims of the Organisation is to keep Members up-to-date with current and emerging issues concerning sugar, nutrition and health issues.
In order to achieve its objectives WSRO provides the following services:
- WSRO has an extensive database of scientific literature on sugar (and other carbohydrates), nutrition and health and is developing a database on other aspects of sugar such as its alternative uses, by-product utilisation, technology, nutritive and non-nutritive sweeteners, environment and agriculture. The information is accessible to Members through a password-protected website.
- Relevant nutrition news focusing on sugar is posted on the website.
- WSRO Research Updates provide topical information on research results examining the role of sugar in nutrition and health, on opportunities for new commercial uses of sugars and on other sugar related subjects, including nutritive and non-nutritive sweeteners. This research data is provided through the website, by email and, if Members wish, it is also available in hard copy format.
- Summaries and analysis are provided to Members of any new developments relating to sugar and health, including publications of reports, outcome of relevant conferences and meetings and international business or political issues impacting on the sugar industry. Members are also kept informed about WSRO activities such as the Annual Meeting.
- WSRO commissions objective science-based position papers defining key nutrition and health areas.
- WSRO ensures contact between member organisations through annual WSRO conferences and symposia and through meetings of various WSRO committees.
